Fall 2013 Makeup Trends |
It’s almost eerie how fast the leaves change after the last long weekend of the summer.
Like an alarm clock for mother nature. Another summer has come and gone in the blink of an eye. I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love fall, every year. The crisp in the air, the rain (or snow), cozy nights, pumpkin EVERYTHING, the excuse to wear oversize sweaters… I can go on forever. One of the best things about fall, however, is the onset of darker fall trends for beauty.
Surprisingly, this years trends have taken a turn for the brighter. Seems like people just can’t give up the neon and teal phase of the summer. Which isn’t a bad thing necessarily. The runways of PFW and NYFW have declared that the theme for fall ’13 is Copper and Plum with a hint of cat eye and smokey-ness… here are some of my favorite trends from this years fashion weeks.
Fall 2013 #1: Cat Eye
I am so, so happy this is officially a “trend,” since I pretty much rock this look daily. Does that make me un-trendy..? Whatever.
Perfecting the application of liquid eyeliner is kind of like an initiation into womanhood, in my opinion. Not only does it add depth and character to your eye makeup routine, but it can change your look dramatically with just a small change. The way I mastered my technique was old school… I just practiced until I got it. Don’t get me wrong, some days I look like a cheap hooker recovering from a bad night, but that just comes with the territory of liquid eyeliner. Nowadays girls have appliques that you can purchase from Sephora for relatively cheap, like these:

I personally haven’t tried these myself, however they look pretty handy. I would have a fear of them coming off though.. I don’t know. Sticking stickers on my eyes just doesn’t seem right.
The easiest way to apply liquid eyeliner is by looking down at a mirror and going SLOW. You should also start from the middle of the eyelid, and when you get to the end, make a slight upwards movement and then fill in the “cat-eye” portion from the bottom. I’ve also heard that some girls cut out the shape on a business card and fill in the line that way, that works too! This youtube vid helps explain the technique:
Now down to product. I use L’oreal’s Lineur Intense Brush Tip liner. It goes on fairly easily and lasts all day, which is impressive because I have super oily eyelids and NOTHING ever lasts on them. It goes a long way, too. I’ve had this for over 3 months and still have a ways to go before it’s empty. Plus it’s only about $10.99 at the drugstore.
Play around with colors and products too. You do not have to rely on solely on liquid eyeliner just to get a cat eye. A nice pencil will do the trick too. You could even combine trends 1 & 2 together…
Fall 2013 #2: Copper
Now, this is a bit of a lie. There was lots of orange shadow on the runway pictures I saw. Not subdued orange, it was orange. Literally. Personally, I find that too much. However, I did pick out some shadows that had orange-y tones in them to compensate.
Copper is really beautiful. Especially so if you have blue eyes! It’s still a great, versatile color that can really complement anyone’s skin tone. Which is why it’s such a good trend.
Fall 2013 #3: Red/Burgundy Lips
I will admit that I know next to nothing about red lips, let alone lipstick. I much prefer lip gloss, and when I do wear anything on my lips, it’s always pale to light pink colors because anything darker and I look awful. I’m not one of the blondes that can pull off a dark lip, unfortunately. However, an intense dark wine color can make such an impact on a woman’s face, especially the wine (mmm, wine) like colors that are coming out this fall. I’ve chosen 4 lipsticks that will look great this fall.
Fall 2013 #4: Smokey Lower Lash Line
Basically like a smokey eye… but on the bottom. Instead of me trying to explain it, here is a picture:
This is something that you could definitely combine with a nice coppery eye shadow, and is less intense so it can also be worm with one of the lighter plum lip shades I mentioned earlier. Here is another great tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNtK_Jjx3DE.
Remember, do whatever works for you. If you think that your token teal and peachy colors of summer can carry you through the fall, do it. Be true to you. Just don’t be one of those people wearing flip flops into November because you just can’t let go. Fall is a beautiful transition into an even better season, winter! You just don’t know how excited I am that summer is ending. Sounds crazy, right? The only thing I’m not looking forward to is the scraping and wiping of snow/ice from my car.. ugh. But at least I look good doing it!
